TD dt. chiefs' election today

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, APRIL 28. The Telugu Desam district and city units are meeting on Sunday to elect new presidents and the respective committees, under the close supervision of a three- member panel comprising a Minister, an MP or MLA and a party leader.

Elections are being held to 27 district and city committees and affiliated bodies, barring Adilabad where these have been postponed. Till late in the evening the Chief Minister and party president, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, has been holding consultations with these three-member committees all of whom are from outside the districts/ cities where elections are due.

Reports from the districts show that there will be a keen contest with a number of aspirants, but by and large the choices are made by the party's high command.

The discussions today centered round the modalities of the election for filling the post of president and other office- bearers. The committees have been told to stick to the rule of representation to all sections with 50 per cent reservation to weaker sections. Each district committee will have 21 members and an affiliated body 11.
