YSR sees bias in demarcation of drought areas

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, APRIL 28. The Leader of the Opposition, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has said the Government declared ``the rich pockets of Telugu Desam only'' drought-affected, revealing the partisan attitude of the State Government.

In a statement released to the press by his personal assistant, Dr Rajasekhara Reddy said that 45 mandals of Chittoor district were declared drought-affected, compared to only five in Cuddapah district. Only 142 mandals were declared drought affected while 246 mandals have severe drought. Not a single mandal in Nalgonda district was declared drought affected, ``resulting in heavy migration of one lakh people.''

At least Rs. one crore should be released to each drought- affected mandal for relief works, he demanded. All outstanding cooperative loans and electricity bills should be rescheduled, he said.
