Dreams versus reality
WRITING appears to have become the fad with urban Indians. Or so
it seems from the number of people attempting to write a novel
these days. And when one happens to have tried a hand at
journalism, then it is only natural to pick up the pen to write a
novel.
While few ever get noticed, the very fact that they try to get
their works published is a testimony to the growing confidence of
the New Age Indians. Zafar H. Anjum is one such youngster. Just
25 and he tries to present what he calls a "tongue-in-cheek" view
of the footloose dreams of his peers.
Taking a cue from run-of-the-mill Bollywood film-makers - who add
sex and violence into their films to make them sell - Anjum has
used a fair amount of references to sex in his novel, that is
primarily a story of shattered dreams and the struggle that comes
with youth.
Of Seminal Fluids, Zafar H. Anjum, Time Books, Rs. 95.
