Walsh will get a gift of land
KINGSTON, APRIL 2. Courtney Walsh will get a gift of land from
the government of Jamaica for becoming the leading bowler in Test
cricket.
The Prime Minister Mr. Percival Patterson made the announcement
at a reception in Walsh's honour on Wednesday the government
would donate the land for the West Indies fast bowler to build a
home of his choice.
Hundreds of people, including the West Indies and Zimbabwe teams,
along with Jamaica-born actress Sheryl Lee Ralph of television's
Moesha, attended the function at Jamaica House, the Prime
Minister's residence.
Walsh captured the wicket of Zimbabwe's Henry Olonga on Monday
during the second cricket Test to take his tally of wickets to
435, one more than India's Kapil Dev. A holder of Jamaica's
fourth highest honour, the order of Jamaica, Walsh also carries a
diplomatic passport and the official designation of ambassador at
large.
He thanked the government, his teammates and the people of the
Caribbean for their help and support over the years.
