Vasco downs Sporting

MARGAO, APRIL 2. Vasco Sports Club of Goa downed Mohammedan Sporting Club of Calcutta 2- 1 to qualify for the premier league in the last encounter of the final round of second division National Football League (NFL) here on Sunday.

Mohammedan Sporting took lead in 38th minute when Vasco keeper Anvar Jabbarov failed to collect a Hamed Ratia shot.

Vasco striker Arawade sent a cross to Jude, who found the net in the 82nd minute.

In another fast paced match played at Nehru stadium, Air India (AI)downed a fighting Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) 3-2.

AI surged ahead in 24th minute through P J Jose while HAL equalised two minutes later through Sunil. Anthony Fernandes scored a brace and put his team ahead in 35th minute but HAL's Xavier found the equaliser a minute before the half-time.
