Crop holiday for tobacco

By Our Staff Reporter

GUNTUR, APRIL 3. The Tobacco Board, which met in New Delhi on Monday, decided to impose a crop holiday for the 2000-2001 season in Andhra Pradesh.

According to sources in the Tobacco Board, the board fixed a crop size of about 25 million kg for Karnataka during this year's season. The board would levy 40 per cent of the cost of the tobacco, if any growers raised unauthorised crop in Karnataka. As regards the crop holiday, the board reportedly did not term it as a crop holiday, but decided not to authorise any farmer to raise tobacco crop. If anybody violated this restriction, heavy penalty would be imposed.
