Four children charred to death in match unit

TUTICORIN, APRIL 8. Four children, including a girl, were charred to death in a fire mishap in a match factory in Kadalayoor village near Kovilpatti this evening.

According to police sources, all of a sudden, fire was triggered due to the friction caused when the match boxes were being shifted from one place to another. It spread to other areas quickly.

Murugalakshmi (14), daughter of Ayyappan, Ramachandran (13), son of Balasubramanian, Barathi (13), son of Subramanian and Marimuthu (14), son of Paramasivam, all of Kadalaiyoor village, and employed in the factory, were charred to death on the spot.

The match factory is owned by Lingappan of Vangarpetti village near Ettayapuram. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
