Explosive knocks by Tendulkar and Ganguly
DHAKA, APRIL 8The Indian batting might was on full display today
as Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly struck explosive half-
centuries to enable the Asia XI pile up a massive 320 for nine
wickets against the Rest of the World XI in the limited overs
day-night exhibition match here.
Former India skipper Tendulkar and his successor Ganguly
enthralled the Dhaka crowd hitting breezy 80 and 67 runs
respectively as the Asian stars thrived on the perfect batting
strip despite the early dismissal of explosive Sri Lankan Sanath
Jayasuriya after skipper Wasim Akram elected to bat at the
Bangabandhu national stadium here.
Tendulkar took command of the innings from the word go, hitting
two superb boundaries in the very first over itself from Andrew
Caddick. Jayasuriya, however, failed to match the Indian maestro
as he gave a simple catch to Michael Bevan off South African fast
bowler Nantie Hayward (three for 39) for only 12 runs in the 49-
run first wicket partnership.
But Ganguly measured up fully to Tendulkar as the duo raised 114
runs for the second wicket to put the Asian XI in a strong
position. Tendulkar (80 off 77 balls), was caught by Franklyn
Rose off England spinner Phil Tuffnel (two for 68).
