Jamia students continue strike
NEW DELHI, APRIL 20. Students of the Jamia Millia Islamia did not
call off their strike today, despite an assurance by the Lt.
Governor, Mr. Vijai Kapoor, and the Delhi Police Commissioner,
Mr. Ajai Raj Sharma, that the cases registered against some of
them would be withdrawn.
Office-bearers of the Jamia Teachers Association are holding
talks with the students to apprise them of the assurance of the
Lt. Governor and the Police Commissioner.
The JMI faculty member, Prof. Shamim Hansi, replied in the
negative when asked whether there was any plan to postpone the
examination, scheduled to begin April 26.
Over 60 students were booked for rioting and assault on public
servant after they clashed with the police on April 9, when they
had gone there to arrest a student involved in an assault case.
