13 Indians detrained in Russia
MOSCOW, APRIL 20. Thirteen suspected Indians were detrained at
the Naushki international check-point in Russia and forced to
return, a senior Border Control Service official has said.
Passengers of all international trains between Moscow and Beijing
were subject to a strict scrutiny of passport and other documents
at Naushaki. The Indians were detrained after the train had
crossed Mongolia, Col. Oleg Titov said here on Wednesday. On
investigation, it was found that the suspects had crossed Nepal,
China and Mongolia before entering the Russian territory. They
posed as businessmen though they had less than $200. A vague
account of their journey led the police to believe that the
``guests intended to swell the dwindling ranks of the Chechen
rebels'', he said, according to the Russian news agency, Novosti.
