21 Army personnel killed in Jaffna
By V. S. Sambandan
COLOMBO, APRIL 20. Continued military offensives in northern Sri
Lanka left 56 combatants killed in the battle between security
forces and the LTTE in Jaffna Peninsula. A total of 21 troopers
and 35 LTTE cadres were killed yesterday.
Following yesterday's claim by the LTTE that it had secured
control over vital military installations, a Sri Lankan Defence
Ministry communique today said ``troops readjusted the forward
defence line in general area Soranpattu and Muhavil
detachments''. Bombers from the Sri Lanka Air Force were also
deployed in yesterday's battle with Kfir ground attack aircraft
engaging ``identified terrorist targets in Maruthenkerni''.
Hooch den unearthed
Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan police today unearthed an illicit
liquor den barely 200 metres from the residence of the Sri Lankan
President, Ms. Chandrika Kumaratunga.
