AIADMK stages dharnas
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI, APRIL 20. The AIADMK today organised processions and
demonstrations in all districts in front of the Collectorates
protesting the ``anti-people policies'' of the Central and State
Governments.
Senior leaders participated in the dharnas which were headed by
the district secretaries. The protestors shouted slogans and held
placards condemning the hike in the price of PDS rice, kerosene
and cooking gas.
Other issues raised during the demonstrations included steps to
ensure continuance of the 69 per cent reservation, and a Bill to
provide for 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament. The
privatisation of the Salem steel plant and the ``lethargy of the
State Government'' in resolving the Mullaiperiyar dam controversy
were also condemned.
