Call to conserve water: CM takes officials to task
By Our Staff Reporter
NIZAMABAD, MAY 2. The Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu,
on Tuesday urged the people to conserve water by taking up
awareness campaigns to ensure that the ground water levels did
not deplete due to indiscriminate exploitation of the available
resources.
He said people should take note of the severe drought conditions
prevailing in Rajasthan and Gujarat and learn a lesson from it.
People should realise that Andhra Pradesh should not become
another Gujarat or Rajasthan. The key to success was water
conservation coupled with watershed schemes to harness
groundwater resources. He devoted a part of his speech the
concept of ``Neeru-Meeru'' (water and you). He promised
development of the backward Adilabad district and to make it a
model in the State.
Mr. Chandrababu Naidu was speaking at a gram sabha in Khanapur
mandal headquarters of Adilabad district, about 110 km from here,
as part of the 12th phase of the Janmabhoomi programme. The Chief
Minister, on his arrival in this tribal-dominated mandal
headquarters, went to government high school premises where the
gram sabha was arranged. Later, he visited Dastoorabad village in
Kadam mandal to participate in the Janmabhoomi programme.
Mr. Chandrababu Naidu look Panchayati Raj and Medical and Health
Departments officials to task when people complained against
them. The Chief Minister summoned officials at the gram sabha and
enquired from the public about their functioning and expressed
dissatisfaction about the way some officials performed their
duties.
He flew into rage after people complained against the Panchayati
Raj, AE, Mr. Chinna Reddy, for not working properly. He was asked
to come on to the dais and questioned by the Chief Minister.
Failing to elicit proper response, Mr. Naidu instructed the
District Collector to submit a report within a week about the AE.
The doctor at Pembi primary health centre was also pulled up for
not staying in the headquarters. The Chief Minister was also told
that the headmaster of the Khanapur school had been on leave for
the last six months and no replacement had been arranged.
Mr. Chandrababu Naidu said Adilabad district was rich in mineral
resources but the only problem was that the resources were not
properly tapped. He recalled the statement made by the TDP
founder N.T.Rama Rao, that he would turn Adilabad into a model
district in the State. The Chief Minister also recalled that he
had toured the district on 22 occasions in the last three years
alone.
He announced sops for the constituency, which included the
construction of a road bridge across the Godavari near
Badankurthi connecting Adilabad and Karimnagar districts, which
would reduce the distance between the two district headquarters.
He said he would lay the foundation stone for the bridge shortly.
The Government was taking steps to take up lining works on
Sadarmath canal in the Khanapur constituency.
The Chief Minister stated that the Government had acted swiftly
last year in the wake of rising cases of malaria and
gastroenteritis in the tribal areas.
