Woman dies of sun stroke
By Our Staff Reporter
CUDDAPAH, MAY 2. A 65-year-old woman, Pidigundla Subbamma of
Yerragudipadu village, who waited for several hours at Kogatam
village in Kamalapuram mandal before being given the cheque for
old age pension, died of sun stroke while returning to her
village on Tuesday.
Pidigundla Subbamma went to the gram sabha at Kogatam village and
waited for a few hours in the scorching heat for old age pension.
She received a cheque for Rs. 225 and while returning to her
native village, she collapsed and died of sun stroke.
Women staged a protest holding aloft broomsticks and slippers in
Thoomukunta village in Galiveedu mandal alleging irregularities
in the payment of compensation for crop losses. The protesting
women alleged that the village administrative officer was biased
and committed irregularities in enlisting farmers who suffered
crop losses. The payment of compensation was also not done
properly, they alleged.
The gram sabha of `Neeru-Meeru' Janmabhoomi was stalled for
around half an hour by Congress functionaries in Yerragudipadu
village. The Congressmen vociferously protested, alleging that
only Telugu Desam Party sympathisers who lost crops were given
cheques towards compensation. The protestors alleged that the
officials denied payment of compensation to farmers, who
sympathised with the Congress.
The people staged a protest against the officials' negligence in
plugging the leakage to the water scheme in Tavvarupalle village
in Khajipet mandal. Two groups had an altercation and clashed on
their demand to shift an anganwadi centre, leading to tension in
the area. There was poor response from people to the Janmabhoomi
programme in Padamatikona, Banamala and Kalibanda villages in
Chinnamandem mandal.
