Zen races ahead of Santro, Matiz
NEW DELHI, MAY 2. Maruti Udyog's Zen retained its leadership in
the premium small car segment by recording a sale of 6,335 units
in April this year, with Hyundai Santro and Daewoo Matiz closely
racing behind the market leader.
During the month, Hyundai sold 5,603 units of Santro followed by
Daewoo which managed to retain the third position in the segment
with sales of 4,902 units.
In the lower mid-sized segment, Hyundai was quite ahead of its
competitors by selling 1,702 units of Accent against 1,165 units
of Maruti Esteem, 1,592 units of Ford Ikon and only 335 units of
General Motors' Opel Corsa.
In the upper mid-sized car segment, Maruti's recently launched
vehicle Baleno clocked a sale of 667 units followed by 237 units
of Opel Astra.
In April, Maruti sold 30,377 cars as compared to 44,167 units in
the previous year, a decline of 31.2 per cent.
Maruti Udyog sold 13,596 units of Maruti-800, 6,081 units of Omni
and 1,764 units of Wagon-R during the month.
