BJP not to contest LS bypolls

NEW DELHI, MAY 5. The Bharatiya Janata Party will not be
contesting either of the two Lok Sabha by-elections to be held
later this month.
The Aska parliamentary seat in Orissa will be left for the Biju
Janata Dal whose leader, Mr. Naveen Patnaik, vacated it on
becoming Chief Minister. The Panskura Lok Sabha seat in West
Bengal, which fell vacant following the death of the CPI leader,
Geeta Mukherjee, has been left for the Trinamool Congress.
This decision was taken during a meeting of the BJP's Central
Election Committee chaired by the vice-president, Mr. Jana
Krishnamurthy, here today in the absence of Mr. Kushabhau
Thakre.The party finalised its candidate for one of the three
Assembly seats in Bihar.
