EAMCET sans hitch, question errors
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, MAY 5. The Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common
Entrance Test (EAMCET)-2000 conducted throughout the State on
Friday passed off without any hitch on the administrative side
and errors in question papers.
The EAMCET-2000 convener, Prof. N. Satyanarayana Murthy, put the
attendance percentage between 98 and 99. Excluding some minor
instances of a student walking away with the question paper and
candidates reporting a bit late not being allowed to take the
test, the examination was free of printing mistakes or
administrative follies.
Earlier in the morning, the Minister for Technical Education, Mr.
Alapati Rajendra Prasad, picked up ``G'' series for the
engineering stream at the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological
University (JNTU). The message was aired through Telugu news on
All India Radio at 6.45 a.m. for the benefit of EAMCET regional
coordinators and the Chief Superintendents of examination
centres. They were also informed by telephone and fax.
At 10 a.m. the Minister picked up ``S'' series for the medicine
stream and information was passed on to all districts
immediately.
Later, the Minister visited Vanita Mahavidyalaya centre where
about 1,000 students were taking the examination. He went around
the centre and enquired with the students whether they had
noticed any mistakes in the question paper. One of the aspirants
informed the JNTU Vice-Chancellor and EAMCET-2000 Chairman, Prof.
Y. Venkatrami Reddy, that question no. 36 in the ``C'' booklet in
the engineering stream had a mistake. However, later experts
found that there was nothing wrong with the question.
The EAMCET Chairman as well as the convener had to face some
delicate situations when two students approached them seeking
permission to take the test as they were not allowed inside the
examination hall for reporting late.
A girl student from Nalgonda district was caught in a traffic jam
on her way and had reported 30 minutes late at her allotted
centre in the city. However, her request was turned down.
In another instance one of the candidates in the A.V. College
centre walked away with the question paper which was supposed to
be given back along with the answer sheet.
Talking to reporters, the Minister said that the results of
EAMCET would be released in the last week of May. He said two
expert committees had been constituted to prepare keys of the
examination.
The initial key of EAMCET would be released on May 7 to which
students and academics can send their suggestions and mistakes,
if any. The letters should be addressed to the Convener. The
final key would be prepared after taking into account the
feedback and it would be released on May 18.
