3 ministers to assess gastro-enteritis cases

BANGALORE, MAY 5. Three ministers have been asked by the Government to rush to Hubli-Dharwad area to assess and take immediate measures to contain the incidence of gastro- enteritis and cholera.

A decision to depute them was taken at the meeting of the State Cabinet, according to the Minister of State for Information Prof. B. K. Chandrashekar.

Briefing the Press about the Cabinet decision, the minister said the three ministers, who had been asked to visit the area immediately were the Health Minister Dr. Maalakaraddy, the Urban Development Minister, Mr. B. B. Chimmanakatti, and the in charge Minister of Dharwad District, Mr. A. H. Hindasgeri.

Prof. Chandrashekar said if there was any shortage of medicine, it could be augmented from Bangalore at a short notice.

As regards supply of drinking water, Prof. Chandrashekar said the Rural Development Minister, Mr. Ghorpade, toured eight to ten districts about a month ago to review the progress of works to supply drinking water.

The Revenue Secretary and the Rural Development Secretary had been asked to visit a few districts where there were complaints of drinking water shortage. The deputy commissioners had been assured that there would be no dearth of funds for drinking water schemes.
