Music, movies and now, news
EVEN THE most compulsive channel surfer stops flicking the remote
when it comes to news.
Pictures mostly tell the truth and bold news footage on TV can
unnerve governments.
There are channels offering news bulletins, and then there are
channels...
There is fresh competition in the ``24-hour news'' channel
segment, as Sun TV enters the fray with ``Sun News'' airing at
6.30 a.m. on May 7.
The bilingual channel with English bulletins on the hour and
Tamil bulletins every half hour caps its news of the day with
prime time editions in both the languages.
``Pathu Mani Seithigal'', at 10 p.m. and `News at Eight' in
English will present the top stories.
Sun says ``interesting people and burning issues'' will figure in
its News Plus feature, giving it an image that goes beyond the
usual.
Discussion on news headlines at 7.30 a.m. and a face to face
between children and personalities in ``Chinna Chinna
Ngabagangal'' are among the bouquet of programmes from Sun News.
The personality interviews launch off with Mr.G.K.Moopanar as
chief guest on the first day.
Weekly news capsules, business news, documentaries by the BBC,
Youth Parliament, News Quiz and Cine Diary form part of the fare.
Songs by Bharathiyar and Bharatidasan will mark the inauguration
of the channel. So here is another channel that hopes to become
compulsory viewing.
