Ganguly is Ceat Cricketer of the Year

MUMBAI, MAY. 6. India skipper Sourav Ganguly has won the Ceat International Cricketer of the Year award for 1999-2000 for his performances from the May 1, 1999 to April 30, 2000 period. India captain Ganguly, with 98 points, won the fifth edition of the award, and was followed on the CEAT Ratings by his predecessor, Sachin Tendulkar, and New Zealander Chris Cairns.

In the Ceat Award Year period, Ganguly scored 1902 runs (@47.55) including six centuries in one-day Internationals and 468 runs in Test matches (@33.42). He took 18 wickets and a total of 22 catches in both forms of the international game.

The final ratings for the Ceat International Cricketer of the Year Award: 1. Sourav Ganguly (Ind/98 pts); 2. Sachin Tendulkar (Ind/95); 3. Chris Cairns (New Zealand/95); 4. Adam Gilchrist (Aus/84); 5. Jacques Kallis (SA/80); 6. Ricky Ponting (Aus), Glen McGrath (Aus) and Lance Klusener (SA) - all 76 pts; 9. Rahul Dravid (Ind) & Mark Waugh (Aus) - 75 pts each.

India, which had a very poor season in 1999-2000, does not feature very high in the Ceat Team Ratings, finishing middle of the pack.

Australia was declared the Ceat International Team of the Year following a very successful term in which the team won the World Cup and is currently on a 10-Test winning streak.

During the Ceat Rating Year, Australia played 13 Tests winning 10 and losing one while in one-day Internationals, the team won 29 out of 37 matches played.
