'Love bug' suspect a woman?
MANILA, MAY 7. The Philippines today said the United States was
helping to track down the source of the ``love bug'' virus that
ravaged computers worldwide and a National Bureau of
Investigation (NBI) official said the suspected hacker was a
woman.
The national police chief told presspersons that investigators
had identified the suspect but it could take a while to make an
arrest because ``the suspect is a moving target''.
Police said a young computer school student apparently from a
middle class family could be behind the virus. But the NBI
official said it was possible she might not be responsible for
the computer attack. ``It was only the computer used to launch
the virus that was traced but anybody could have used that
computer,'' he said.
The official, who asked not to be identified, said it was
possible the suspect might have already destroyed whatever
evidence could link her to the virus.
