TVS Electronics in JV for language software
By Our Corporate Reporter
CHENNAI, MAY 12. TVS Electronics (TVSE), the Chennai based
computer peripherals manufacturer has formed a joint venture with
Modular systems, a Pune-based Indian language software firm.
Announcing the joint venture from Pune through a tele (audio)
conference today, Mr. Gopal Srinivasan, Director of TVSE, told
presspersons that the joint venture Modular Infotech would bring
together the language software capabilities of Modular Systems
and TVSE's commitment of taking IT to the heart of India. He said
TVSE's stake in the equity capital of Rs. 7 crores would be 33
per cent and would be found from internal resources.
Dr. Mehemosh N. Cooper, one of the promoters of Modular Systems,
said the company was one of the biggest players in the language
market segment with a range of products including the DTP product
Shree-Lipi, considered the de facto standard in the Indian
language software market. It had a library of over 3,000 Indian
language fonts. He claimed the company was the first to introduce
a totally indigenously developed CRT based phototypesetter for
typesetting in Indian languages and added Modular Systems
continued to be the only company having in-house font development
tools.
Earlier addressing presspersons in Chennai, Mr. S. Prasad, Vice
President (marketing) of TVSE, said his company was a leader in
dotmatrix printers, UPS systems and keyboards.
