Contests on Srikkanth's web-site
CHENNAI, MAY 12. ``It is a reflection of my style of batting,''
said former Indian cricket captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth with
that trademark smile of his as he announced the
krishsrikkanth.com Strike Rate Contest for the Asia Cup to be
held in Dhaka on his web-site. The dasher from Chennai has not
forgotten the bowlers too. There will be a krishsrikkanth.com
Economy Rate competition.
Addressing the presspersons here on Friday, Srikkanth said that
those interested to take part had to just type out the name of
the player whom they thought would emerge on top in his web-site.
But the batsman should have scored a minimum of 100 runs in the
tournament and the bowler, taken at least four wickets.
There are interesting prizes in the offing - a Thomson music
system, a Thomson colour television, three Hercules Top Gear
bicycles and 25 T. Shirts. Entries will be accepted till the
final of the tournament. Indian opening batsman Sadagopan Ramesh,
who was present on the occasion, said Srikkanth, who thrilled the
spectators with his exciting strokeplay during his playing days,
was still in regular touch with his fans through his Blazing Away
column in The Hindu. ``I am proud to be his good friend,'' Ramesh
revealed.
Apart from the contest, the site will cover the Asia Cup live
with Srikkanth providing the commentary. The other important
features of the site are Online Chat with the important
personalities, Online Quiz, Coaching Clinic, Opinion Polls,
Interviews, and a unique Game Zone. The site also has articles on
the latest developments in cricket, and a section on the legends
and the golden moments with a rare photo gallery.
``It is a dynamic and an exciting site,'' observed Srikkanth. It
was probably the first time a strike & economy rate contest was
being conducted in a web-site he said. The idea came from similar
awards that were so popular in Australia during his playing days,
he added. He said being a former cricketer himself, he could
build a good rapport with the audience.
Turning to Ramesh, Srikkanth said the Tamil Nadu batsman had made
the best start by any Indian opener after the great Sunil
Gavaskar in Tests and hoped he would make a good comeback after
missing out on quite a few matches due to an injured finger. In
the one-dayers too, Ramesh's record was pretty impressive, he
said.
