Olympics: Indian probables' list released

CHENNAI, MAY 12. The list of probables for the Indian hockey team to take part in the Sydney Olympics has been announced. The selection committee headed by Mr. K.P.S. Gill, President, Indian Hockey Federation, picked the players who will now attend a conditioning camp in Bangalore from May 18.

The performance of the Indian players, currently taking part in the Junior Asia Cup in Kuala Lumpur, has been recognised by the selectors.

The probables: Goalkeepers: Jude Menezes (Mumbai), Devesh Chauhan (AI Academy), Bharath Chetri (Centre of Excellence), Jagdish Ponnappa (IA) and Edward Aloysius (P & SB).

Backs: Dilip Tirkey (IA), Dinesh Nayak (Tamil Nadu), Bikramjit Singh (Railways), Lazarus Barla (IA), Len Iyappa (Centre of Excellence) and Kanwalpret Singh (Punjab).

Midfielders: B.S. Saini (P & SB), Md. Riaz (IA), Thirumalvalavan (Tamil Nadu), Samsul Shouk (U.P.), Arjun Hallappa (Centre of Excellence), S.S. Gill (BPCL), Ramandeep Singh (Punjab), Bimal Lakra (IA), Paramjit Singh (Services) and Natarajan (Tamil Nadu).

Forwards: Dhanraj Pillay (Mumbai), Sameer Dad (IA), Mukesh Kumar (IA), Gagan Ajit Singh (BPCL), Prabhjot Singh (AI Academy), Bipin Fernendez (Centre of Excellence), B.S. Dhillon (Punjab), Senthil (Tamil Nadu), Deepak Thakur (AI Academy), Harbhajan Singh (BSF) and Inderjit Singh (CHD).
