Attack on church 'orchestrated'

By Our Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL, MAY 18.The Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Ms. Sumitra Mahajan, today said the Madhya Pradesh Government need to be sensitised while reflecting on the arrest of some women in connection with the recent ``attack'' on a church at Indore.

Talking to presspersons here, she termed the incident as ``orchestrated''. The timing of the incident - just before the arrival of the Congress(I) president, Ms. Sonia Gandhi, for a Kisan rally, organised by the Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Subhash Yadav - showed that it was the handiwork of those within the Congress (I) who wanted to stall her visit.

Never before had any church been attacked in this manner in Indore. Not a single person belonging to the BJP was involved.

Ms. Mahajan highlighted the ``gross irregularity'' in the allotment of the property, owned by the State-run orphanage in Indore to a non-registered organization called ``Shraddha'', despite objections by the State Women and Child Development department.

``When the Sanskritik Jagran Manch had raised its voice against the irregular allotment of Government-owned site to an organization loaded with members of the Christian community, the site was transferred to another organization, ``Arambh'', as a cover-up exercise,``. The State Government and particularly the district collector had gone out of their way to favour a certain organization because it was funded by the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation.

She said she had written to the Chief Minister about these irregularities, but he did not respond.
