Ramachandra Reddy's election certain

MAHABUBNAGAR, MAY 20. The State BJP council has demanded that
schemes, such as, Employment Assurance Scheme, PMRY, Swarna
Bharathi and DRDA, should be taken up in all the drought-affected
districts in the State to contain the migration of agriculture
labourers and small and marginal farmers to other places in
search of livelihood.
The two-day meeting of the council began here on Saturday. The
council would elect the new State president and 42 national
council members from the State. As only a single nomination of
the present incumbent, Mr. Ch. Ramachandra Reddy, was received
for the top post, it was clear that Mr. Reddy's name would be
announced as new president for the next two years in tomorrow's
session.
The election of 42 national council members is also expected to
be unanimous as the election officer received 40 single
nominations from 40 places and the remaining are yet to be
decided. The council which passed a resolution unanimously on the
prevailing drought conditions in the State demanded the
Government to supply fodder.
It also asked the Government to sink more borewells in tank beds
and follow the system of recycling to irrigate more land with
meagre expenditure. It also demanded setting up of all-party
committees from mandal to State level to implement and oversee
drought relief works.
The council urged the Government to take up the Krishna, Godavari
water utilisation scheme to solve the drinking water and
irrigation problem in the State permanently. The meeting further
asked the Government to stop forcible recovery of loans from
farmers of in the district. The desilting of tanks should be
taken up extensively, it demanded.
Mr. M. Venkaiah Naidu, All-India BJP secretary, Mr. Bandaru
Dattatreya and Mr. Bangaru Laxman, Union Ministers, Mr. A.
Narendra, State general secretary, Parliament members, Dr.
Venkataswamy (Tirupati), Mr. A.P. Jitender Reddy (Mahabubnagar),
U. Krishnamraju (Narsapur), Mr. P. Venugopal Reddy, State
secretary and film actor, Mr. Naresh, were present.
Mr. Ramachandra Reddy, State president, presided over the
meeting.
