Four naxals killed in encounter

By Our Staff Reporter

KOTHAPALLI (KARIMNAGAR Dt), MAY 30. Four People's War Group Peddapalli Local Guerilla Squad (LGS) members were killed and two policemen and a civilian were injured in a fierce exchange of fire with the special police parties at Kothapalli village of Ramagundam mandal under Raghavapur police station limits, 60 km from the district headquarters, on Tuesday. A naxalite escaped by snatching an SLR with loaded magazine from the police party.

The Superintendent of Police, Mr. Nalin Prabhat, told newsmen at the scene of offence that on credible information about the PWG Peddapalli LGS members being holed up in the village, special police parties went to there and launched combing operation from the hillocks. After noticing the police, the naxalites opened fire from a hut and one special police party, which was near the hut, retaliated, killing three naxalites. The hut owner, Mrs. Gouramma (70), sustained bullet injuries when the naxalites opened fire.

On the other hand, naxalites from another house nearby opened fire on another police party which was closing in on them. In a fierce battle, the Peddapalli Circle Inspector, Mr. Rajendra Prasad, suffered a bruise on his arm. Another police constable, Mr. Hashim, suffered injuries as a bullet pierced through his palm. However, the police neared the house from one side and a constable put his SLR into the window to open fire in to the house. Suddenly, an injured naxalite snatched his weapon and ran away from behind the house where there was no force. The police found bloodstains along the escape route and pressed dog squads to nab the naxalite.

Another naxalite, who was holed up in the house, was firing indiscriminately on the police parties. In the meantime, additional police forces were deployed and they cordoned off the entire village and the house. The SP, Mr. Nalin Prabhat, the Officer on Special Duty, Mr. V. V. Srinivasa Rao, the Peddapalli DSP, Mr. Ravi Kumar, and the Godavarikhani DSP, Mr. Ramesh, visited the spot and asked the naxalite to surrender, but in vain. The police then took up positions and made an opening on the roof top and hurled grenades.
