VSP fully ISO-9002 certified

VISAKHAPATNAM, MAY 30. The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam has become the first integrated steel mill to become `a fully ISO-9002 certified company'.

Ironically, the glory comes to VSP after it has reported itself to the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction with its fate is hanging fire on the disinvestment front.

The certificate has been given to it by the Bureau Veritas Quality International (BVQI), the globally renowned certifying agency. According to a VSP spokesman, the certification follows a thorough 10-day audit of the entire quality systems of the plant in April.

With the receipt of a single certificate, the quality system of VSP's 50 departments, four regional and 20 branch offices and 22 stockyards all over the country are now covered under ISO-9002 standards.The certificate scope includes production of a comprehensive range of saleable iron and steel products, coke and coal chemicals, other saleable products and power generation, along with the supporting and service departments, in domestic or export markets.

This single certificate merges the quality systems of Phase I, II and III units and include quality systems of its balance departments, such as coke and coal chemical plant, capital repair group, systems department, structural engineering department, cost control cell, occupational health services and research centre and the Central Industrial Security Force and fire wings.
