Pak. says it has abided by U.N. resolutions
ISLAMABAD, JUNE 2. Pakistan today said it has consistently called
for the implementation of relevant U.N. Security Council
resolutions requiring an internationally-supervised plebiscite
for ascertaining the wishes of the people of Kashmir.
``India, on the other hand, has consistently refused to honour
the provisions of these resolutions as well as the Shimla
agreement, which calls for the final settlement of the Jammu and
Kashmir issue,'' a Foreign Office spokesman said in a statement.
The spokesman was commenting over remarks by the Indian External
Affairs Minister, Mr. Jaswant Singh, in a live interview to CNN
on May 31, 2000.
The spokesman said that on the implementation of U.N. resolutions
concerning Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Singh had alleged that Pakistan
had never abided by those resolutions in the last 50 years. ``He
distorted the facts by asserting that the U.N. resolutions
required Pakistan to withdraw all its troops from Jammu and
Kashmir, for other `necessary actions' to follow,'' the spokesman
said.
