KPCC stir on June 5 against subsidy cut, Plus Two
By Our Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JUNE 2. The KPCC has decided to embark on
dharnas in front of Central and State Government offices on June
5 in protest against the Central Government decision to cut
ration and fertilizer subsidy and the State Government's failure
to solve the Higher Secondary crisis.
The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the KPCC
office-bearers meeting here today. The dharna would be organised
at the assembly constituency-level. The meeting decried the
Central Government's anti-people policies. It alleged that the
bargaining between the LDF constituents were responsible for the
delay in announcing the list of schools for the Plus Two. The
"auction" for higher secondary course was only an indicator the
possibility corrupt deals. The delay in sorting out the Plus Two
muddle and the decision to shut down unrecognised schools had
pushed the students into the abyss of uncertainty, the meeting
said in a resolution.
Regarding the revenue card, the KPCC meeting said that the State
Government was putting the common man to lot of difficulties by
seeking difficult and unnecessary details. It opposed the
proposed penal provisions against those who give wrong
information. If the State Government does not come forward to
sort out the problems, the Congress(I) would be forced to embark
on an agitation boycotting the revenue card.
The KPCC meeting decided to hold assembly-level conventions
during June and July, envisaging the involvement of the office-
bearers of the ward committees. On membership disputes which are
not resolved at the district-level, complaints could be filed
before the KPCC. A KPCC statement said that the complaints could
be submitted to the KPCC general secretaries in charge of the
respective districts. The KPCC president would examine such
complaints and take a final decision, the statement said.
Those who attended the meeting, presided over by the KPCC
president, Mr Thennala Balakrishna Pillai, included the KPCC
vice-president, Mr K Muraleedharan, the KPCC general secretaries
Mr M M Hassan, Mr Pandalam Sudhakaran, Ms M Kamalam, Mr M I
Shanavaz, Mr Hidur Mohammed, Mr Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Mr
Benny Behanan, Mrs Mercy Ravi, Mr Kadavoor Sivadasan, joint
secretaries, Mrs Sobhana George, Mr Varkala Kahar, Mr K C Abu, Mr
M K Raghavan, Mr Ajay Tharayil, Mr K P Danapalan, Mr Anto Antony,
and Mr Joseph Vazhakkan.
