IMA opposes hike in user charges
By Our Staff Reporter
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JUNE 2. The Indian Medical Association has
opposed the recent hike in user charges in Thiruvananthapuram
Medical College without making any improvements in the service
offered to patients.
Describing the hike as totally unjustified, the IMA state
president and secretary Dr. M. Bhaskaran and Dr. R. V. Asokan
respectively said there is a long waiting list for all surgeries
and that even emergency patients have to wait for 24 to 48 hours.
The IMA leaders, in the statement issued here today, has demanded
that the ceiling of Rs. 1,500 for free treatment should be raised
to Rs. 3,000 per month. The number of operation tables,
investigation facilities and amenities should also be increased.
Pointing out that the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College was
provided only a budgetary allocation of Rs. 2 crores for drugs,
equipments salaries, establishment and other expenses, the IMA
said the Government should allocate enough resources.
