ICE stocks help fresh rally in Sensex
MUMBAI, JUNE 2. Led by infotech, communication and entertainment
(ICE) stocks, equities staged a sharp recovery lifting the Sensex
by 128 points on the Bombay Stock Exchange today on hectic
shortcovering and fresh purchases by foreign institutional
investors and financial institutions.
ICE shares responded positively to the upswing in the Nasdaq
composite index that bounced back by over 181 points last night
and induced speculators not only to cover short positions but
even extend commitments at the concluding session of the current
settlement.
The FIIs were consistent net buyers in a number of ICE scrips
such as Infosys Technologies, Satyam Computers, Global
Telesystems, SSI, Pentamedia Graphics, Zee Telefilms, Wipro and
some others.
The BSE sensitive index opened firm at 4381.70 and gradually
moved upwards to the day's high of 4486.99 before closing at
4453.47 against 4325.47.
