CET results today: 64,362 candidates assigned ranks

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, JUNE 6. As many as 64,362 candidates have been assigned ranks in the Common Entrance Test (CET) held last month for admissions to the State's engineering, medical and dental colleges. While 50,046 candidates are now eligible for the 24,000 engineering seats on offer, 38,765 students can choose from the 3,000 MBBS and 1,400 dental seats.

Detailed results will be published in all the CET centres in the State on Wednesday morning. The results could also be accessed on the CET website at (http://kar.nic.in/cet) and (http://nicksu.kar.nic.in/cet), the CET Cell Special Officer, Mr. B. A. Harish Gowda, told presspersons here on Tuesday.

In the Karnataka category, 29,022 of the 54,059 candidates who appeared for the test have been assigned ranks. Of these, 26,505 candidates have been allotted engineering ranks and 21,503 medical ranks. In the Non- Karnataka category, 35,340 candidates out of the 35,366 who appeared for the test have been ranked. Among these, 23,541 are engineering and 17,262 medical ranks.

Unlike in the II PU examination, male candidates (65.72 per cent) have performed much better than their female counterparts who could get only 34.28 per cent of the ranks. Of the 4,572 SC candidates who appeared for the test, 2,014 (44.05 per cent) have been ranked, while 497 (48.29 per cent) of the 1,029 ST candidates have been assigned ranks.

Mr. Gowda said the correct answers of all the 16 versions of the four subjects - Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology - would be published both at the examination centres and the websites.

There will be separate result sheets for ``Karnataka quota'' and ``Non-Karnataka quota.'' ``The names of candidates who have not been assigned ranks because of ineligibility, want of qualifying examination marks, etc., will also be listed separately with reasons,'' he said.

Ranks have been assigned to Non-Karnataka quota candidates solely on the basis of CET marks. However, their eligibility will be scrutinised at the time of seat selection process. ``Mere assigning of ranks will not make them eligible for the selection of seats,'' Mr. Gowda said.

The marks scored by the Karnataka quota candidates in the PU examination and CET in all the four subjects along with caste category and CET question paper version codes are separately shown in the results sheets with other details. ``Any valid objections to any entry except the CET marks will be entertained if submitted within seven days from the date of announcement of results.''

However, Mr. Gowda said requests for revaluation and retotalling would not be entertained ``for the reason that the evaluation has been done by scanners attached to the computers and thus 100 percent accuracy has been ensured.''

Seat Matrix

The final matrix of the total number of engineering and medical seats on offer will be released by the State Government shortly. Although the Minister of State for Higher Education, Dr. Parameshwar, did not specify the exact date, he said it would be ready in a few days.

He said the students could choose from about 24,000 engineering seats, 3,000 medical seats and 1,400 dental seats. As many as 240 medical seats, 240 dental and 2,300 engineering seats would be available for the Non-Karnataka category students.

Dr. Parameshwar said the Government had rejected the Centre's call to cancel the CET.

Seat selection

The seat selection process, Mr. Harish Gowda said, would commence as per scheduled on June 19. In case of any variation in PU marks after revaluation, fresh ranks would be assigned soon after the finalisation of the revaluation results, suo motu, and no application was needed.
