Mufti favours dialogue with separatists
By Our Special Correspondent
SRINAGAR, JUNE 13. The People's Democratic Party (PDP), led by
the former Union Home Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, has
summoned its political affairs committee and State executive to
discuss the political and security situation in Jammu and Kashmir
and called for dialogue with alienated sections of society.
The party's seven-member political affairs committee held a
meeting here on Tuesday attended among others by Mr. Sayeed, Ms.
Mehbooba Mufti, and Mr. Muzaffar Hussain Beig. The party expressed
anguish over the increase in killings in the State.
Mr. Sayeed told TheHindu that there should not be any delay in
initiating a formal dialogue with separatists so that a lasting
and final settlement to the Kashmir issue was negotiated.
The PDP is likely to adopt a resolution on issues concerning the
State such as security, development, employment, price hike and
good governance. A senior leader said, peace was the priority for
the party.
