Plaint against Salman Khan

NEW DELHI, JUNE 17. A complaint was filed against Bollywood star Salman Khan by the Rajasthan Forest Department today in the court of the judicial magistrate, Jodhpur, for hunting blackbuck in Bishnoi territory in October, 1998.

Also mentioned were co-stars, Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Neelam and Sonali Bendre and Dushyant Singh, associated with the Umaid Palace. Salman Khan's passport has been impounded by the court and he cannot leave the country for shooting without its permission.

The Wildlife Protection Society of India (WPSI), which was actively pursuing the case, is happy that after painstaking investigations lasting 20 months, the trial will finally begin now.

Salman Khan already had a chargesheet filed against him last year for killing two chinkara antelopes on September 28, 1998. It is believed that the hunting party had a feast out of their catch at Umaid Bhavan Palace Hotel owned by the former ruler of Jodhpur, Gaj Singh.

Three days later, on October 1, two black bucks were reportedly shot dead by Salman Khan, co-stars Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Neelam and Sonali Bendre and Dushyant Singh, who is associated with the Umaid Palace. Since the episode took place in Bishnoi territory near Jodhpur where black bucks are worshipped as descendants of Lord Krishna, the hunters were given a chase by the Bishnois. Though the hunters escaped, the dead animals were taken to the State Forest office the next morning and a case was registered. The passport of Salman Khan has been impounded by the Jodhpur court and he cannot leave the country for film shooting without its permission.
