APSRTC launches 'campaign week'
By Our Staff Reporter
NIZAMABAD, JULY 10. The pilgrims travelling to Tirupati for
darshan of Lord Vekateswara by Andhra Pradesh State Road
Transport Corporation (APSRTC) buses can now avail themselves of
a new facility of buying the Tirupati-Tirumala link ticket in the
bus in which they travel.
This offer comes on the eve of the `Campaign Week' launched by
the corporation to attract more passengers to travel by its
buses, according to the Deputy Chief Traffic Manager, Nizamabad
region, Mr. Vijay Kumar. The new facility would enable the
pilgrims travelling to the Tirupati to buy ticket upto Tirumala
from the boarding point itself instead of getting down at
Tirupati and then buying separate tickets. The pilgrims are now
assured of direct link by way of ticket from their destination.
He elaborated the significance of the maiden `Campaign week,'
launched today all over the State. He said the corporation had
designed its services according to the changing needs of the
passengers and schemes like `Travel Regularly' and `Earn an
Additional Trip Scheme' (TREATS) for frequent travellers on the
Hyderabad-Vijayawada route was a success. The Jubilee Express
tickets (JET) for providing flexibility of travel from any place
to anywhere, any number of times during a given period also
received good patronage. The Concessional Annual Travel (CAT)
cards which provided 10 per cent discount was another scheme
which evoked tremendous response. The monthly season tickets
enabling passengers to travel for 30 days by paying only 20 days
fare would benefit the passengers, he added.
The idea behind the campaign is to popularise the existing
schemes and services offered by the corporation, he said. People
should utilise services like reservation of seats on the
telephone and door delivery of tickets, booking of return journey
tickets, relaxation of ticket cancellation and refund rules, free
travel in city services on the strength of advance reservation
ticket. Many of these services were not known to people and the
intention was to make them aware of the facilities.
As part of the campaign, at all the bus stations a special
`Campaign desk' would be organised displaying placards
highlighting the marketing schemes and passenger-friendly
measures. A special drive would also be launched motivating the
operating crew/staff and supervisors, duly assigning targets to
enroll new members under the TREATS, CAT card schemes and promote
sale of JET tickets. Efforts were also being made to deliver the
laminated CAT card to the passengers enrolled on the spot at the
bus stations in the regional headquarters and the following day
in the case of other areas.
Mr. Vijay Kumar said that for the benefit of the people of
Nizamabad district, five authorised ticket booking agents had
been appointed. Of them, two each were in Nizamabad and Bodhan
while one was at Kamareddy. The people of the district could
reserve their ticket either by the telephone or personally
contacting the authorised agents. The agents are: Nizamabad - Mr.
C. H. Bosu Babu, Manasa restaurant (phone 36611) and Mr. Ch.
Ramakrishna (34550); Bodhan - Mr. Suresh Babu (70694) and ANL
parcel service (75359); Kamareddy - ANL parcel service (24181).
