Pak. will maintain ceasefire: Sattar
By Thomas Abraham
LONDON, AUG. 11. The Pakistan Foreign Minister, Mr. Abdul Sattar,
has said that Pakistan will maintain a ceasefire despite the
breakdown of talks between India and the Hizbul Mujahideen. In an
interview to the Financial Times newspaper, he said, ``We will
continue to maintain the ceasefire, our troops will not fire
unless provoked... If there is no firing at our positions,
there's no reason to fire back.''
The Minister also reiterated Pakistan's belief that talks on
Kashmir would not succeed without its own involvement. ``The
Indian position has come around to the view that we can talk to
the Hizbul Mujahideen, but not to Pakistan... Any realistic
observer will tell you that a settlement cannot be reached in
Kashmir without involving Pakistan in a dialogue.''
