Himachal Govt. to reinstall Gandhi statue

SHIMLA, AUG. 11. The Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr. Prem Kumar Dhumal, today said the statue of Mahatma Gandhi would be reinstalled at the Gandhi Chowk in Hamirpur, where the existing one was damaged yesterday by some miscreants.

Mr. Dhumal, condemning the incident, asked the district authorities to book the culprits and warned that anti- social elements, responsible for the incident would be dealt with sternly.

Meanwhile, the Youth Congress workers led by the State president, Mr. Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, staged a dharna at the historic Ridge maidan before a statue of Mahatma Gandhi here to protest against the incident.

Later the workers, holding placards demanding the arrest of the culprits, took out a silent procession through the mall.
