SHIMLA, AUG. 11. The Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr. Prem
Kumar Dhumal, today said the statue of Mahatma Gandhi would be
reinstalled at the Gandhi Chowk in Hamirpur, where the existing
one was damaged yesterday by some miscreants.
Mr. Dhumal, condemning the incident, asked the district
authorities to book the culprits and warned that anti- social
elements, responsible for the incident would be dealt with
sternly.
Meanwhile, the Youth Congress workers led by the State president,
Mr. Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, staged a dharna at the historic Ridge
maidan before a statue of Mahatma Gandhi here to protest against
the incident.
Later the workers, holding placards demanding the arrest of the
culprits, took out a silent procession through the mall.
