Pakistan prevails in high-scoring encounter

SINGAPORE, AUG. 20. Pakistan beat New Zealand by 12 runs in a high scoring Singapore Challenge triangular series opener on Sunday.

Pakistan made 191 for six in a game reduced by rain to 25 overs per side, helped by some bold strokeplay from man-of-the-match Ijaz Ahmed (49) and Yousuf Youhana (46). Its bowlers then weathered some powerful hitting by New Zealand before dismissing it for 179. Pakistan, which faces South Africa on Wednesday, was fined 15 per cent of its match fees for a slow bowling rate.
