President, Ms. Chandrika Kumaratunga, today.
After the accreditation ceremony, Ms. Kumaratunga and Mr. Gandhi
discussed matters relating to bilateral ties and regional

The Foreign Minister, Mr. Lakshman Kadirgamar, was also present.
Mr. Gandhi, 55, succeeds Mr. Shiv Shankar Menon, who left earlier
this month for Beijing as the Ambassador to China.
The former Indian Administrative Service officer is no stranger

Before arriving here last week, he was the secretary to the
President, Mr. K. R. Narayanan.
