By Amit Baruah
SINGAPORE, AUG. 25. The Myanmarese Pro-democracy leader, Ms. Aung
San Suu Kyi, was stopped by the police on Thursday as she tried
to travel out of Yangon for the first time in two years.
She was trying to drive to Kungyangon, some 50 km south of the
capital to organise the youth wing of her National League for
Democracy.
In 1998, Ms. Suu Kyi, was stopped twice for trying to leave
Yangon. She remained in her car for five days in protest on the
first occasion and for 13 days the second time round.
