2 killed in Sri Lankan blast
COLOMBO, AUG. 26. A Sri Lankan soldier on leave exploded a
grenade following a quarrel, killing himself and a civilian and
wounding eight others. The Government said in a statement today
that the incident occurred yesterday at Arapattai in the eastern
Batticaloa district.
It did not give details, but said investigations were being
carried out jointly by the police and military police. The
statement also said Government troops had clashed with a group of
10 Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) rebels at Paliaikkuli
in Wanni region yesterday, killing six of them. The remaining
rebels managed to escape, it said.
