Koreas' example
Sir, - ``Time heals griefs and quarrels, for we change and are no
longer the same persons.'' This quote seems perfectly relevant at
this point of time when the two Koreas are seeking reunification.
It is good that both the countries who had been once pawns in the
hands of the major powers have now identified the benefits of a
united Korea.
This rapprochement of the two countries leaves a thought for the
Indian and Pakistani rulers. Why can't India and Pakistan also
think on those lines? The only obstacle that comes in the way of
unification of South and North Korea as pointed out in your
Editorial (August 21) is the existence of two different types of
economic systems in the post Cold War era. However, with regard
to India and Pakistan, both share the same roots of tradition,
culture and heritage. Besides, both have the same type of
economic system. The only barrier is the attitudes of the rulers
of the two countries. It would not be impractical to think on the
lines of Germany and Korea provided there is a steady effort with
faith and patience.
