Inter-State gang busted, 7 held
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, SEPT. 2. The Ranga Reddy police on Saturday arrested
seven members of an inter-State gang of dacoits responsible for
several dacoities, robberies and house breaking offences.
The police claimed to have recovered one lorry, one scooter, 160
ceiling fans and fan components, all worth Rs. 5.50 lakhs from
them. Five other members of the 16-member gang were arrested last
month while four others continued to elude the police dragnet.
The Superintendent of Police, Mr. N.V. Surendra Babu, told
presspersons here on Saturday that a country made revolver, two
daggers and a knife were recovered from the members who were
responsible for a total of 29 offences. Apart from Ranga Reddy
and Medak districts, the gang which had been active since
November last year had committed offences in Latur district of
Maharashtra and Bidar district of Karnataka.
The modus operandi was to steal heavy vehicles such as lorries
and then utilise them for committing industrial thefts. "They
also used to travel as passengers in private lorries and then rob
the drivers after beating them mercilessly," the SP said. In
July, the dacoits looted 200 fans worth Rs. 40,000 from the
premises of a company at Balanagar after beating up the watchman.
The gang had robbed 13 lorries from various locations in the last
10 months.
The arrested were identified as Mohd. Azmath Pasha, Md. Ishaq,
Md. Musthafa, Md. Sajeed. Besti Suresh, Sunil Sadge and Md.
Anwar. Five others -- Gandham Mahesh, Pinti Shivaji, Syed Sher
Ali, Sk. Razzak and Md. Saber -- who were arrested last month
were remanded to judicial custody. "We are still looking out for
four other members -- Kodavali Raju, Mark Samuel, Pokka Ishaq and
Anwar," Mr. Surendra Babu stated.
The traders of electrical goods in Fathenagar who had received
the stolen property from the gang -- Rakesh, Vidyuth Kumar,
Rakesh Kumar and Sajan -- were also arrested, he said. He
announced that the Inspector, Mr. P.V. Krishnaiah, the Sub-
Inspector, Mr. S. Ranga Rao and the constables -- Messrs. Satya
Kumar, Pochaiah, Manohar Reddy, Kanta Rao and Chand Pasha --
would be rewarded suitably.
