Malleswari's father agrees to alternative proposal
By Our Staff Reporter
VISAKHAPATNAM, SEPT. 23. In an apparent bid to end the on-going
dispute over the house site allotted to Olympic bronze medalist,
Ms. Karnam Malleswari, in Visakhapatnam, her farther, Mr. Karnam
Manohar, agreed to consider positively any alternative proposal.
It may be recalled that the site allotted during the tenure of
the then Chief Minister, N.T. Rama Rao, is at present involved in
a legal dispute with some persons claiming ownership and forcing
lot of embarrassment to the State Government.
Speaking this evening at his residence in Amadalavalasa, Mr.
Manohar said his family was not very particular that they should
be allotted only that specific site. "We are willing to take over
any plot of equal dimensions within the periphery of 10 to 15 km
of the existing one (Peda Waltair)," he clarified.
Asked about reports that they were very adamant about the
disputed site, the ace weightlifter's father said it was given by
the Government and not that someone had occupied their own land.
"If the district authorities feel that it will take undue delay
in handing it over to Malleswari, we will be doubly happy with
the alternative proposal with the Government also bearing the
expenditure incurred by us in constructing a shed and getting
water and power supply at the above site," he said.
Perhaps, this move should come in handy for the District
Administration which was under pressure from the higher-ups in
the wake of the generosity shown by other States in announcing
huge financial assistance to Ms. Malleswari.
