Ravi Shankar Guruji honoured in U.S.

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE, SEPT. 23. Washington D.C. celebrated August 26 as "His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Day" to honour the founder of the International Association for Human Values and the International Art of Living Foundation, Bangalore.

A proclamation to this effect was presented by Senator Paul Strauss of Washington D.C. to Sri Ravi Shankar Guruji recently, an Art of Living Foundation press release said here.

According to the proclamation of the Mayor of the District of Columbia, the honour was bestowed on him for his contribution to "humanity" -- a unique opportunity to countless individuals in over 100 countries to arrive at a deeper understanding of themselves and to experience a profound transformation in their lives by the practice of "Sudarshan Kriya," an ancient yogic breathing technique adapted and patented by him.

The proclamation also lauded the 5H programme, which focussed on "Health, Home, Hygiene, Human Values and Harmony and Diversity", that was being implemented by the International Association for Human Values.

Programmes such as Prison Smart, Art Excel, Dollar-A-Day and the Barefoot Projects of Sri Ravi Shankar had helped to enhance the quality of life of "prison inmates, inner city teens and needy children and women," the proclamation said.

This is the second proclamation made by Sri Ravi Shankar Guruji in the U.S., the first being at San Francisco followed by the one at Colombia. Guruji was one of the special invitees, who recently addressed the Millennium Summit in New York.
