Central team for Bengal: PM
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, SEPT. 28. The Prime Minister, Mr. A.B. Vajpayee, today
said that a Central team would soon tour the flood-affected areas
of West Bengal and assess the losses.
The Centre would provide relief after the team completes its
assessment, he told reporters after addressing the 35th
conference of State police chiefs and heads of Central Police
organisations.
Replying to a query, the Prime Minister said the Centre had not
received any report from the West Bengal Government on the flood
situation. He expressed sorrow over the loss of life and property
due to the floods.
Mr. Vajpayee said the Armed Forces had been directed to provide
relief to the flood victims on a war footing. The Air Force has
also been asked to drop food packets and other relief material,
he added.
