20 killed in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO, OCT. 2. A candidate of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) contesting in Trincomalee was among at least 20 killed in a suicide bomb attack today in Trincomalee in eastern Sri Lankan as one of the party's leaders and the deputy minister for telecommunication, Mr. M L A M Hisbullah, escaped yet another attempt on his life in Batticaloa.

The SLMC candidate, Mr. Mohammed Obaithullah, a former police officer, was killed when an LTTE suicide bomber detonated himself at the venue of a People's Alliance meeting in Muthur, south of Trincomalee town. The PA and SLMC are in an alliance in the district.
