China hopes Putin visit will bolster peace

BEIJING, OCT. 2. China has expressed the hope that the visit of the Russian President, Mr. Vladimir Putin, to India beginning today would lead to peace and stability in the region.

``We hope that the development of the India-Russia relationship will be beneficial for preserving regional security, peace and stability,'' the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mr. Sun Yuxi, said here. ``Both India and Russia are our close neighbours and friendly nations. We want to see the relations between the two countries develop.''
