Barak, Arafat to attend summit
By Kesava Menon
MANAMA (Bahrain), OCT. 14. The Israeli Prime Minister, Mr. Ehud
Barak, and the Palestinian leader, Mr. Yasser Arafat, have agreed
to attend a summit to be hosted by the Egyptian President, Mr.
Hosni Mubarak, in Sharm-el Sheikh on Monday.
The U.S. President, Mr. Bill Clinton, is also expected to attend
although he is awaiting confirmation that the Israeli and
Palestinian leaders are clear in their minds as to what the
summit is to achieve. Although both sides continue to make
demands on what they feel the summit should achieve, it would
appear that the limited objective of firming up a ceasefire is
being sought at present.
